Art Awards Aplenty
Ava Cole won the Best Computer Graphics award at the Knoxville Museum of Art Regional Student Art Competition in December. Ava won two scholarship offers, a cash prize, and her piece was framed professionally to tour the state until June.
Lici Chavez has won two nice prizes lately for her self-portrait project. She won the Best of Show in the Arrowmont Student Art Contest last spring and received $250.00 cash there, and then she received an honorable mention at the East Tennessee Regional Student Art Competition at the Knoxville Museum of Art in December. Her prizes there included a Gift Certificate to Jerry's Artarama and a scholarship offer from Cumberland University. I am sending you a photo of Lici with her drawing.
Faith Harvey has also won some nice awards. She won first place at the Tennessee Valley Fair for her metal sculpture of an elephant during her freshman year, and this past fall she won first place as a senior in the Congressional Medal of Honor Competition at the fair. I am sending you two photos of Faith.
Also, Darcie Bagent won recognition in a contest held at Walters State for her charcoal self portrait.
Bales Nets 1000th Point.

Junior Ivy Bales netted her 1000th Point in her basketball career here at Gatlinburg-Pittman High School on Friday against Union County High School. That is a major accomplishment for any student athlete playing high school basketball. We applaud her skills and abilities and look forward to the rest of her high school career. She is pictured with her Coach Dr. Katie Moore.

Senior Colton Simpson was selected to the 2018 Tennessee Sports Writers Association All-State Team as an offensive lineman and was also invited to play in the Border Bowl All-Star Game. Junior Bryce Akey earned All-State Defensive Back honors from the Tennessee Football Coaches Association (TNFCA). Congratulation to both highlander football players.

Seniors Sophie Henry and Lindsey Janette of Gatlinburg Pittman make Tennessee High School Soccer Coaches Association (THSSCA) All-State Team. Sophie Henry makes the team as a defender, Henry was also the Region 2A defensive player of the year. Lindsey Janette takes the honors as a midfielder where she was also first team all region.
Lady Highlander Selected 1st Soprano in ETVA All-East Choir

Claudia DellaSantina of Gatlinburg-Pittman makes All-East Wonmen's Honor Choir. Claudia was selected as a 1st Soprano. She was one of 24 Sevier County students to make the All-East Choir. Bobbi Watson has done a great job with the chorus program at GPHS and expects more students to gain that honor in the future.
GPHS Cross Country Advances to State and brings home hardware and a State Championship!

Gatlinburg-Pittman advanced both the girls and boys cross country teams to the TSSAA State Cross Country Championships. The girls team finished 9th place overall, but Freshman Lily Stinnett placed 7th overall and was a state medalist. The boys team finished 6th overall and Senior Emerson Fulton finished as the TSSAA State Champion. This is Emerson's second state championship. He was the TSSAA State Champion in the 800 Meter Run in Track & Field last spring. It was a great season for first year head coach Phillip Chaney and Assistant Coach Latisha Lafollette.
Volleyball Advances to TSSAA State Championship for the First Time!

The 2018 volleyball season for Gatlinburg-Pittman was historic. It is the first time in program history that the team earned a birth to the TSSAA State Championship Tournament. Even though the tournament did not work out the way the lady highlanders had hoped, it still is another step in building a great volleyball program at GPHS. The team accomplished several accolades including, District 2A Champions, Region 1A Runner-Up, and Section 2A Champions and ultimately a TSSAA State Tournament birth.

Golfers Participate at TSSAA State Championships

Gatlinburg-Pittman golfers Ethan Hayes and Aaron Johns participated at the TSSAA State Golf Championship at Willowbrook Golf Club in Manchester, TN. Ethan took third place overall with a two day combined score of 145 for the tournament being 1 over par. Aaron was tied for 11th place with a two day combined score of 156 for the tournament being 12 over par. It was a great tournament for our GPHS golfers. Coach James Risser did a great job with the team this year.
