Important things to consider when planning your post secondary options:

  • Is my major/field of study available?

  • Am I comfortable with the distance from my hometown?

  • What is the student body makeup at the institution?

  • What support services are available to students?

  • What is the faculty/student ratio?

  • If technology is important, what is available?

  • Are honors, learning communities, study abroad, etc opportunities available?

  • Are institutional scholarships and financial aid available?

  • Do you meet the qualification for acceptance?

 What you should ask on a college visit:

  • What extracurricular activities are available?

  • What support services are available for students? (counseling, career services, healthcare, etc)

  • What is the faculty/student ratio?

  • What technology is available? (in the classroom and dorms)

  • Are special programs available for honors, learning communities, study abroad, etc?

  • How diverse is campus?

  • What living arrangements and options are available? (dorms, suites, apartment living, etc)

  • What are the meal plan options?

  • How safe is the campus and what precautions are in place for student safety?
